How to Care for Your Teeth While Traveling

At Alma Dental Care, we love helping patients as they navigate their oral healthcare at home or on the go. We understand that maintaining good dental hygiene can feel challenging while traveling. If you plan on being away from home for an extended period of time, there are several things you can do to help your smile stay healthy, fresh, and clean. Here are some tips for taking care of your teeth and gums when you’re traveling!

Bring Your Tried-and-True Oral Hygiene Tools

Over time, you have likely found the toothbrush and toothpaste that best suits your needs and preferences. Don’t settle for a hotel-supplied toothbrush and tube of toothpaste. Make sure you pack your trusty oral hygiene tools that you regularly use at home. If you do happen to forget your toothbrush, make sure your temporary replacement is a soft-bristled toothbrush so you don’t damage your tooth enamel or irritate your gums.

Pack Easy-to-Use Floss Picks & Carry-on-Sized Mouthwash

Floss picks are an excellent item to throw into your carry-on or stashed in your car’s glove box. This tool has a string of floss on one end and a toothpick on the other side. They are perfect for quickly getting food debris out of your teeth in between flights or on the road. A small container of mouthwash is also a great way to freshen your mouth and kill bacteria until you can brush your teeth.

Drink Plenty of Water

It’s important to stay hydrated when you’re traveling. Drinking water can help prevent dry mouth and bad breath. Water can also help wash away food particles and bacteria lingering in the mouth.

Maintain Routine Preventive Care

Keeping up with your biannual dental cleanings and checkups will help your teeth and gums stay healthy and strong so you’re prepared to travel with ease on your next trip. Contact our Alma Dental Care team today to schedule an appointment.
